I get asked questions (weirdly). I haven’t the foggiest idea why, since I am one of the most boring people in the entire world – even my girlfriend says so – but I thought I would answer them here instead of continuously repeating myself on Twitter and whatnot…
Why do you talk so much about people getting facts about the UK or Northern Ireland wrong?
It’s my number one pet-peeve – that’s pretty much it. Being from Northern Ireland, I find it incredibly annoying when people either automatically call me Irish (despite British being the majority population in NI) or claim that NI isn’t in Britain, therefore making me ‘not-British’, or something silly like that. If this makes me come across as crazy and obsessive… you’re probably right.
“Is your surname really ‘Keys’, like Alicia Keys? Does that mean you have American ancestry?”
Yes – except Keys is my real name, whereas Alicia Keys’ real name is Alicia Cook. No American ancestry that I know of.
What is the header image on your blog?
It is a photograph of a mural from the Falls Road, an Irish Nationalist area of Belfast which is famed for its “International Wall”, a long wall of colourful and very professionally crafted murals depicting various political views and ideologies from across the globe. The wall attracts hundreds of tourists each year.
